RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database v4.495 [Data set]. Zenodo.

The RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database is a compilation of stock assessment results for commercially exploited marine populations from around the world.

The RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database is grateful to the many stock assessment scientists whose work this database is based upon and the many collaborators who recorded the assessment model results for inclusion in the RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database. Since 2011 the RAM Legacy Data base has been hosted and managed at the University of Washington with financial assistance from a consortium of Seattle-based seafood companies and organizations, and from the Walton Family Foundation. Initial development of the database from 2006-2010 was supported by the Census of Marine Life, Canadian Foundation for Innovation, NCEAS, NSERC, the Smith Conservation Research Fellowship, New Jersey Sea Grant, and the National Science Foundation.

Statement

Along with FAO FIRMS and FishSource, RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database is a contributor to the Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries (GRSF). Stock definitions and time-series data from the three sources are merged, and unique identifiers are applied for all global stocks and fishing fleets.

Stock boundaries of many stocks are available from the RAM Legacy Stock Boundary Database, maintained by Christopher Free. Datafiles, shapefiles, and graphics are available for download.

Life-history data at the species level are available from external data sources. FishBase provides a rich collection of life-history and other data at the species level. FishLife, maintained by Jim Thorson, applies nested taxonomic hierarchical models to life-history data from FishBase to predict traits for all marine fish species.

Several regional coordinators, contributors, and analysts of the RAM Legacy Database were members of a working group “Measuring the status of fisheries and factors leading to success” at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) under the Science for Nature and People Partnership program (SNAPP).

The RAM Legacy Database is an integral part of Pillar 2 of the International Fisheries Innovation Network (I-FIN), a network of fisheries scientists, economists, and researchers who collaborate to inform fisheries management policy around the world.

A GitHub issue tracker page for the RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database can be used to alert us about data issues found for specific stocks or database components.

Previous versions of the RAM Legacy Stock Assessment Database can be found at Zenodo, each version with its own unique DOI.
