NOAA Coral Reef Watch Daily Global 5km Satellite Marine Heatwave Watch
The NOAA Coral Reef Watch Daily Global 5km Satellite Marine Heatwave Watch provides daily global monitoring of marine heatwaves at 5 km spatial resolution. Marine heatwaves are identified as periods of anomalously high sea surface temperature relative to a long-term daily temperature threshold and are classified according to their intensity. The product is derived from the NOAA Coral Reef Watch CoralTemp satellite sea surface temperature dataset and includes historical and near-real-time marine heatwave information from 1985 to the present.

- Statement
- The Marine Heatwave Watch product is derived by applying the Marine Heatwave algorithm of Hobday et al. (2018) to the NOAA Coral Reef Watch daily global 5 km CoralTemp satellite SST data product. A Marine Heatwave is identified when the SST for a particular day is greater than the 90th percentile value for that location and is categorized based on its intensity.
