  • This dataset contains the outputs of nutrients concentrations of a global ocean simulation coupling dynamics and biogeochemistry at ¼° over the year 2019. The simulation has been performed using the coupled circulation/ecosystem model NEMO/PISCES (https://www.nemo-ocean.eu/), which is here enhanced to perform an ensemble simulation with explicit simulation of modeling uncertainties in the physics and in the biogeochemistry. This dataset is one of the 40 members of the ensemble simulation. This study was part of the Horizon Europe project SEAMLESS (https://seamlessproject.org/Home.html), with the general objective of improving the analysis and forecast of ecosystem indicators.   See Popov et al. (https://os.copernicus.org/articles/20/155/2024/) for more details on the study.

  • The PROSOPE (PROductivity of Oceanic PElagic Systems) cruise took place from the 4th of September (Agadir, Morocco) to the 4th of October (Toulon, France) 1999 aboard the RV Thalassa. There were four main scientific objectives: 1, carry out classical process studies, typical of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS), 2, focus on small scale biogeochemical processes, in particular at a daily scale, 3, study the influence of nitrogen, phosphorus and iron on oceanic fertility and 4, conduct a calibration/validation operation for the SeaWIFS (Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor) color sensor. To reach these objectives, the studied areas, as well as the cruise plan, were designed : To investigate different trophic regimes, to investigate systems characterized by different degrees of limitation in nitrogen and phosphorus and to study stable ("steady state") systems for a sufficiently long period. The cruise track encompassed a variety of trophic systems ranging from eutrophic conditions associated to the Moroccan upwelling to the typical ultra-oligotrophic conditions of the eastern Mediterranean sea during summer stratification. Two main types of stations were occupied : - 9 short (4-hour) stations. These sites were occupied around the solar noon and were essentially designed to conduct objectives 1 (JGOFS process studies) and 4 (SeaWIFS validation/calibration) - 3 "long" (5-day) stations, where all four objectives were investigated with a particular emphasis on objectives 2 (processes at a daily scale) and 3 (nutrient resources and oceanic fertility). Between each station, continuous multiparametric (hydrological, optical, biological and chemical) surface acquisitions were performed.

  • This product contains observations and gridded files from two up-to-date carbon and biogeochemistry community data products: Surface Ocean Carbon ATlas SOCATv2023 and GLobal Ocean Data Analysis Project GLODAPv2.2023. The SOCATv2023-OBS dataset contains >25 million observations of fugacity of CO2 of the surface global ocean from 1957 to early 2023. The quality control procedures are described in Bakker et al. (2016). These observations form the basis of the gridded products included in SOCATv2023-GRIDDED: monthly, yearly and decadal averages of fCO2 over a 1x1 degree grid over the global ocean, and a 0.25x0.25 degree, monthly average for the coastal ocean. GLODAPv2.2023-OBS contains >1 million observations from individual seawater samples of temperature, salinity, oxygen, nutrients, dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity and pH from 1972 to 2021. These data were subjected to an extensive quality control and bias correction described in Olsen et al. (2020). GLODAPv2-GRIDDED contains global climatologies for temperature, salinity, oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, silicate, dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity and pH over a 1x1 degree horizontal grid and 33 standard depths using the observations from the previous major iteration of GLODAP, GLODAPv2. SOCAT and GLODAP are based on community, largely volunteer efforts, and the data providers will appreciate that those who use the data cite the corresponding articles (see References below) in order to support future sustainability of the data products.

  • This In Situ delayed mode product integrates the best available version of in situ oxygen, chlorophyll / fluorescence and nutrients data. The latest version of Copernicus delayed-mode BGC (bio-geo-chemical) product is also distributed from Copernicus Marine catalogue.

  • The SURATLANT dataset (SURveillance ATLANTique) consists of individual data of temperature, salinity, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and its isotopic composition d13CDIC, total alkalinity (At), inorganic nutrients and water stable isotopes (δ18O and δD) collected mostly from ships of opportunity since 1993 along transects between Iceland and Newfoundland (shipping company EIMSKIP), as well as, since 2014, between west Greenland and Danemark (shipping company RAL). The data have been validated, qualified, and their accuracy and the overall characteristics of the data set are presented in a paper (Reverdin et al., 2018). The csv file provides a listing of the data with one line for each collection date. This includes collection date, position, temperature, salinity, and the measured, validated and in some cases adjusted variables, as well as a quality code following WOCE/GLODAP format. For water isotopes and isotopic composition of inroganic carbon, a code is also provided indicating the method of measurement used. An additional text-file provides a normalized average seasonal cycle of the 10 variables measured in 5 boxes between the vicinity of Newfoundland to the south-west of Iceland (corresponding to the figure 3 of the paper Reverdin et al in the References). Format and information is provided in the top 25 lines and the gridded seasonal cyle data start at line 26.

  • The ARCHYD dataset, which have been collected since 1988, represents the longest long-term hydrologic data sets in Arcachon Bay. The objectives of this monitoring programme are to assess the influence of oceanic and continental inputs on the water quality of the bay and their implications on biological processes. It also aims to estimate the effectiveness of management policies in the bay by providing information on trends and/or shifts in pressure, state, and impact variables. Sampling is carried on stations spread across the entire bay, but since 1988, the number and location of stations have changed slightly to better take into account the gradient of ocean and continental inputs. In 2005, the ARCHYD network was reduced to 8 stations that are still sampled by Ifremer to date. All the stations are sampled at a weekly frequency, at midday, alternately around the low spring tide and the high neap tide. Data are complementary to REPHY dataset. Physico-chemical measures include temperature, salinity, turbidity, suspended matters (organic, mineral), dissolved oxygen and dissolved inorganic nutrients (ammonium, nitrite+nitrate, phosphate, silicate). Biological measures include pigment proxies of phytoplankton biomass and state (chlorophyll a and phaeopigment).

  • The BioSWOT-Med campaign (Doglioli et al., 2023) was conducted aboard R/V L’Atalante from April 20 to May 15, 2023 in the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea, in the region of the North Balearic Front (NBF) to study interactions between fine-scale oceanic circulation and biogeochemical processes.  Three water masses were sampled across the NBF, northern ('A'), southern ('B'), and frontal ('F'). Each Lagrangian station consisted of a 24-hour sampling period following the displacement of a water parcel (Doglioli et al., 2024). Vertical profiles down to 500 m were collected every 6 hours at 06:00 ('T1'), 12:00 ('T2'), 18:00 ('T3'), and 00:00 ('T4') UTC, for a total of 28 Lagrangian stations: first between April~24-28 (A1, F1, B1), and again between May~4-7 (B2, F2, A2), with a final station in southern waters (B3) on May~12-13. B2 and B3 stations were located inside an anticyclonic eddy. Hydrological profiles were obtained using a Sea-Bird CTD, with data averaged to a 1~m vertical resolution, they include potential temperature (°C), practical salinity, fluorescence-derived chlorophyll-a (µg/L) and oxygen (µmol/kg).  Samples for nitrate + nitrite and phosphate (µM) were collected from Niskin bottles and analyzed onboard within 2-12~hours using a segmented flow analyzer (AAIII HR Seal Analytical) following (Aminot et al., 2007). Quantification limits (QL) were 0.05 µM for nitrate and 0.02 µM for phosphate. Phosphate concentrations at a nanomolar level analyses were performed in the laboratory using a high-sensitivity method combining a 1 m Liquid Waveguide Capillary Cell (LWCC) and an auto-analyzer (Zhang et al. 2002), achieving a detection limit of 0.002µM.  A BGC-Argo float (WMO: 1902605 - Provor CTS4 SUNA) equipped with a CTD and SUNA nitrate sensor was deployed near station B2 and sampled the anticyclonic eddy. To better resolve the photic and nutricline layers, the standard sampling cycle was modified to a 6-hour frequency, reaching depths of 300-400~m. The BGC-Argo float nitrate dataset spans May~2-16 and includes 55~profiles, with a 0.5 µM limit of quantification. It passed through a nitrate calibration procedure against 8 ship-made  profiles at B2 and B3. Data export in NetCDF format - Dataset at the 7 Lagrangian stations (28 vertical profiles for each variable, 4 at each station):  ‘BioSWOT-Med_LS_Date_Time.nc’ (with day, time, longitude and latitude);  ‘BioSWOT-Med_LS_Nutrients.nc’ (with nitrate, phosphate and phosphate at nanomolar level concentrations and depths);  'BioSWOT-Med_LS_CTD.nc' (with temperature in situ, practical salinity, chlorophyll-a and oxygen concentrations, photosynthetically active radiations and depth). - Dataset of the BGC-Argo float including 55 vertical profiles recorded between May 2 and 16:  'BioSWOT-Med_BGC-Argo' (with day and time, longitude, latitude; nitrate concentrations with associated depth; temperature in situ and practical salinity associated depth; chlorophyll-a concentrations with associated predepthssure; and oxygen concentrations with associated depth).
